How To Apply To The BS/MS Statistics Blended Program

To apply to the BS/MS Statistics Blended Program you must be a current Cal Poly statistics major.

  • Students in other Cal Poly majors, students from other universities, and Cal Poly graduates cannot apply to the blended program. Anyone who is not a current Cal Poly statistics major must apply to the MS Statistics Program through the Cal State Apply website Links to an external site..

The application form will be emailed out at the start of Winter quarter. To complete the application, take the survey and submit your answers. If you need to change any information in your application, you can submit the survey again. Only the most recent version of your application will be considered for admission.

To access the application form, you will need:

  • Your Cal Poly email address.
  • Your Cal Poly ID number.
  • Your current expected graduation quarter for the BS Statistics degree. (This is the quarter that you would expect to graduate if you didn’t enter the blended program.)

We will begin reviewing applications after March 1st. Any applications received by then will receive full consideration. Any applications received after March 1st may be given lower priority based on the number of applications received before the deadline.

The application has six questions. You should prepare your answers to these questions before starting the application.

The application questions are:

  1. (required)  your name
  2. (required)  the quarter that you expect to finish all BS Statistics requirements
    • This is the quarter when you would expect to graduate with a BS degree if you did not enter the MS Statistics program. We need this information in order to estimate when you would officially transition to being a graduate student.
  3. (required)  a maximum 500-word statement of purpose giving the reasons that you are applying for the program and your goals for the future
    • We recommend that you compose your statement outside of Canvas, then paste the text into the blank provided in the application.
  4. (required)  the names and emails of two Cal Poly statistics faculty to serve as your references--these should be faculty that you've either taken classes from, worked on research projects with, or been a grader for
  5. (optional)  the name and email of one person who is not Cal Poly statistics faculty that we can contact as a reference--this could be a faculty member in another department or university, someone that you've worked on a research project with, or someone you've worked for;
    • Please tell your 3rd reference that they may be contacted by the Cal Poly Statistics Department to ask for information about you.
  6. (optional)  a maximum of 250 words about anything else related to your application that you would like the admissions committee to know

The optional items give you an opportunity to highlight things about yourself beyond your academic record, but they are not required for admission.
