Who Can Apply To The BS/MS Statistics Blended Program

To apply to the BS/MS Statistics Blended Program you must be a current Cal Poly statistics major.

  • Students in other Cal Poly majors, students from other universities, and Cal Poly graduates cannot apply to the blended program. Anyone who is not a current Cal Poly statistics major must apply to the MS Statistics Program through the Cal State Apply website Links to an external site..

Current statistics majors can apply to the blended program

  • after completing CSC/CPE 101, MATH 206, MATH 241, STAT 302, STAT 323, STAT 331, and STAT 334

and

  • at least one full quarter before graduation (for example, students must apply no later than Winter quarter if planning to complete B.S. work at the end of Spring quarter)

What happens after acceptance?

  • If you apply and are accepted, do not become a graduate student until
    • you have completed at least 91% of your BS Statistics unit requirements (at least 164 of the 180 units required to graduate)
    • you have completed the Graduation Writing Requirement (GWR)
    • you have submitted a Blended Programs Application Approval Form to the Graduate Education Office
  • If you decide not to do the MS Statistics degree after being accepted, you can just graduate with a BS Statistics degree once you have fulfilled all of those requirements. (Talk to the graduate program coordinator about any paperwork that may be needed.)
  • Once you have transitioned to graduate student status, you will not receive your BS Statistics degree until you complete the requirements for both the MS and BS Statistics degrees. If you later decide not to continue with the MS degree, you leave the program and graduate with the BS degree only when you have finished all of the BS Statistics requirements. (Talk to the graduate program coordinator about any paperwork that may be needed.)

When Can I Attend Commencement for the BS Degree?

  • Commencement is an unofficial ceremony. If you are in the blended program, you can attend commencement before you finish the BS/MS blended degree. We recommend attending the ceremony anytime after you have finished all (or most) of the BS Statistics graduation requirements. It is your decision when to attend commencement.
